Uncle Paul’s Bio

Uncle Paul was born in South East, Washington, District of Columbia, and attended Lenox Elementary School, Randal Junior High, Eastern Senior High School, and South Eastern University. A writer, preacher, activist, and songwriter. Uncle Paul (Paul Steven Smith), chronicled his life and work in countless blogs, essays, sermons, songs, and art.

In July 2019, Uncle Paul had a thought after seeing a YouTube video, that he would like to try painting. Never showing any interest and definitely any skills, he decided to buy some canvas, paintbrushes, and paint and decided to give it a try. On July 21, 2019, he completed his first piece, “Go For It”.

From the beginning through the evolution, you’ll see evidence that he evolved and changed as an artist by taking a deeper dive by looking within. Uncle Paul believes that his art represents his personal evolution of searching within for life’s answers and the joy and pain of getting to know himself again. As he paints, he believes that you will see the beauty and the ugly layers of life.

Each stage of Uncle Paul’s art journey is an emergence of a deep and powerful secrets of a super mind and spirit. Art is Uncle Paul’s act of coming out, becoming apparent and exposing himself fully, and giving the world a peek of the world that he lives in. His wounds, his love, his joy, his hate, and his pain. Uncle Paul understands that he is now vulnerable, and some will criticize his work, but he also understands that he is not a fine artist; he paints what he feels. Uncle Paul often says, “my art is flawed, the lines may not be straight, my technique is not trained, and that is okay, because there are no mistakes in art; each brushstroke is orchestrated by the divine”.
